【摘要】:AsindicatedbySpecificationsD977andD2397,emulsifiedasphaltsareclassifiedbytype(rapidmediumorslowsetting)andbygradewithintype(viscosityinthecaseoftherapid-settingtypeorcharacteristicoftheresidualasphaltinthecaseofthemediumandslow-settingtypes).Selectionforuseofaparticulartypeandgradeiscontrolledbytypeofconstruction(whetheranapplicationoramixtype),propertiesofthemineralaggregate(bothgradingandmineralcomposition),andenvironmentalconditionsduringconstruction.Forsurfacetreatmentsandseals,emulsionsareformulatedtosetrapidlyuponcontactwiththemineralaggregateorpavementsurface.Whenusedinmixtypes,slowerbreakingisrequiredtoallowtimeformixingandlaydown.Ifthemixaggregateisopengradedwithoutappreciablefines,amedium-settingemulsionmaybeusedthatdepositsarelativelyhardasphalt.Iftheaggregateisdense-gradedbutdoesnotcontainalargeamountofveryfinematerial(dust),amedium-settingemulsionwithasoftresiduemaybeagoodchoice.However,ifthedense-gradedaggregatecontainsalargeamountofveryfinemineralmatter,aslow-settingemulsionmayberequired.1.1Thispracticecoverstheselectionofemulsifiedasphaltsforvariouspavingandallieduses.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Practice
