【摘要】:Newandusedpetroleumproductscancontainbasicconstituentsthatarepresentasadditivesorasdegradationproductsformedduringservice.Theamountoftheseadditivesinanoilcanbedeterminedbytitratingagainstanacid.Thebasenumberisameasureoftheamountofbasicsubstanceintheoil,alwaysundertheconditionsofthetest.Adecreaseinbasenumberisoftenusedasameasureoflubricantdegradation,butanycondemninglimitsmustbeempiricallyestablished.Thistestmethodusesreagentsthatareconsideredlesshazardousthanmostreagentsusedinalternatebasenumbermethods.Itusespre-packagedreagentstofacilitatebasenumberdeterminationsinthefieldwherescientificequipmentisunavailableandquickresultsareatapremium.Note18212;Resultsobtainedbythistestmethod3aresimilartothoseobtainedbyTestMethodD2896.1.1Thistestmethodcoversaprocedurefordeterminingthebasicconstituentsinpetroleumproductsinthefieldorlaboratoryusingapre-packagedtestkit.Thetestusesamicro-titrationresultinginavisualendpointfacilitatedbyacolorindicator.1.1.1Thistestmethodcoversbasenumbersfrom0to20.Itcanbeextendedtohigherrangesbydilutingthesampleorbyusingasmallersamplesize;however,theprecisiondatawereobtainedforbasenumbersupto20.1.2Thistestmethodcanbeusedtoindicaterelativechangesthatoccurinanoilduringuseunderoxidizingconditions.Althoughthetestisperformedundercloselyspecifiedconditionswithstandardizedreagents,thetestmethoddoesnotmeasureanabsolutebasicpropertythatcanbeusedtopredictperformanceofanoilunderserviceconditions.Nogeneralrelationshipbetweenbearingcorrosionandbasenumberisknown.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
